Ash Wednesday marks the start of the observation of Lent, a season of self-examination, penitence, self-denial, study, and preparation for Easter. Lent is often described as lasting forty days (excluding Sundays) which recalls the Biblical account of Jesus’s temptation in the wilderness (Luke 4.1-13). Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence. You are invited to unpack the Christian faith in a friendly, open and informal setting, through the Alpha Course. 

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that explore the basics of the Christian faith. We will watch a short film together that unpacks the big questions around life, purpose and faith. This is followed by an open conversation where you can share your thoughts (if you want to) , ask any question and hear from others. There is no pressure. Why not come for the first week and if you don’t like it, you don’t need to come back.  Maybe you have a friend who is curious about why you go to church or asks questions about your faith. Why not invite them to come with you?

We gather to remember any whom we love but see no longer. Gathering with a common experience of loss in a sacred space, as is traditional at this time of year, can be a powerful way to process, draw strength and grace and even to heal.

As we gather in the beautiful ancient church building at Hethel, we will worship together, remember the names of those we have lost and have opportunity to light a candle in memory of them. Those for whom we have conducted funerals in the last couple of years will be remembered, and any others requested.

We will take a list of names at the door as people arrive, or if you would like us to remember anyone in your absence, just let us know by emailing adrian@mulbchurch.org.uk ahead of time.As well as thinking about coming yourself, is there a neighbour, a friend or a relative who might like to come with you? Reach out and invite them. Tea and cake afterwards.

We remember the treasured life of Ros, a much loved organist and church  member, as we say and pray our goodbyes, together at Bracon Ash Church, where she played for many years.

Flordon Film Club will be screening  ANORA  in St. Michael's Community Centre Wednesday 11th June 2025 . The doors open at 7.30pm and the film starts at 8.15pm. Duration      139 mins. Please note the slightly later starting time owing to the lighter evenings.

Summary:  Anora is a comedic variation on a modern day Cinderella story. Mikey Madison is Ani, a young sex worker from Brooklyn whose life takes an unexpected turn when she meets and impulsively marries Vanya, the impetuous son of a Russian billionaire. However, when Vanya's parents catch wind of the union, they send their henchmen to annul the marriage, setting off a wild chase through the streets of New York. The film won 6 oscars.

An opportunity to show our churchyard is welcoming to all as well as identifying what nature is present and contribute to a National database celebrating the variety of wildlife and living organisms that exist in our grounds. We will be having a drop in event on Sunday 8th June between 2—4pm, but with guided identification sessions if you wish to join too.
There will be lots of identification guides for you or bring your own. Alternatively you may want to download iNaturalist onto your phone and log this way. At Flordon Church's Annual Parochial Church Meeting, all members of the Electoral Roll are welcome.

We would love to see you in Flordon Church to celebrate all that we were able to accomplish last year, and all that we look forward to doing together this year, in the service of Christ and in the service of our communities.  It is an occasion to celebrate, to receive fresh vision, and to elect representatives who can continue to carry the vision forward.

It is also a time for any church members, electoral roll members or regular worshipers, to raise any issues that they wish the church council to address.  The floor will be open.

If you are not so mobile, you are very welcome to just join in at the church / churchyard, from around 10:10am.  While others do the lap of the Common and place the Cross in its usual position, there will be music in the church and space simply to be with Jesus, as you imagine his trek.

What are stations?

Stations are places where people wait while they are going from one place to another. People wait at train stations or bus stations or airports.

There are all kinds of things that might cause us to stop, to station ourselves.

What are the "12 stations of the cross"?

Throughout this Holy Week, from Monday 14th April to Saturday 19th April, Mulbarton Church is host to a special set of 12 stations.  Anyone is welcome to go in AT ANY TIME THROUGHOUT THE WEEK, and station themselves to reflect upon life and God and meaning - and to be inspired by the life and work and love of Jesus.

Guides are available at the back of church.  One for grown-ups, and one for young children, with prayers written by primary school children.

Adrian will be leading a special devotional around the 12 stations from 10am on Good Friday, gathering at Mulbarton Village sign on the Common as usual, but spending most of our time in the church, pasuing midway for one lap of the Common, carrying a big cross and installing it in its usual place.  All welcome to come along for something a little different, as we inhabit those events of years ago, which still carry such meaning and power for us now.

We are a fun, enthusiastic choir for any who love to sing. We meet every Thursday in term time at Mulbarton Primary School 7.30—9.30pm and are always open to new members.

We use very simple form of words to give us a bit of structure, chat about a Bible reading, and offer simple prayers for things of concern. We also enjoy freshly brewed delicious coffee (other hot drinks are also available!)

Mardlers is an afternoon of tea and chat and an opportunity to meet others. It’s usually held at Mulbarton Village Hall on the 4th Tuesday of every month from 2 - 4.00pm. Transport can be provided if needed.

We gather to remember any whom we love but see no longer. Gathering with a common experience of loss in a sacred space, as is traditional at this time of year, can be a powerful way to process, draw strength and grace and even to heal.

As we gather in the beautiful ancient church building at Hethel, we will worship together, remember the names of those we have lost and have opportunity to light a candle in memory of them. Those for whom we have conducted funerals in the last couple of years will be remembered, and any others requested.

We will take a list of names at the door as people arrive, or if you would like us to remember anyone in your absence, just let us know by emailing adrian@mulbchurch.org.uk ahead of time.

Honour and Cherish their memory with a simple candle at Mulbarton Church.

The Church will be open and lit until 9pm on Thursday (All Souls) and Friday (All Saints).  Candles available for visitors to light in memory of those they have lost.

Adrian, our Rector, will be present in person 5-7pm on Thursday evening, to welcome any visitors, and to offer prayer or a listening ear if wanted.

In addition, we have our annual service of Remembering Loved Ones, as we gather at Hethel Church at 3pm on Sunday 3rd November.

Praying for deep comfort and hope for all at this time of the year.

Last summer, all in the benefice were invited  to think about where we were and where we were going. 31 people gathered, with all four villages represented. We considered: changes that we could anticipate locally and further afield; hopes and fears; finances, volunteering; prayer & witness; church buildings; expanding our work beyond Sundays; and things for PCCs to consider. It was really useful being able to listen to one another, pool ideas, take stock, and generally navigate rather than drift - and it has led to several changes in how we've done things over the last year.  

So, in October, we'll meet again to review how we have done since then and hear about challenges coming our way. We'll split into smaller groups, each focused on one of the parishes, and try to formulate some achievable aims for each parish for the coming year.

Hanover raised £332 last week to support Tearfund’s “Transforming Communities” inspiring work.
